Testimonials

Your story had a profound impact on our workers. It provoked thought before action and I hope it has a lasting effect on them as much as it will on me.

Roof Plumber, Holsworthy Army Base.

The impact on the group has been significant and the change in behaviour of our workers immediate. We had reports to our management meeting yesterday of workers stopping another contractor about to work from a ladder – instant success all down to your visit – Thanks.

Mike Basterfield, Alliance Manager, Sunset Coast Water.

Truly inspirational and thought-provoking. Exactly what we needed at this time of year and this stage of our works to give everyone a wake up call. The conversations and behaviours of the blokes on site following your visit is awesome to see. We had over 130 people totally captivated by your story and no doubt all thinking twice about the decision they make in their lives that could change everything in an instant if personal safety is neglected.

Matt Ward, Engineer, Sunset Coast Water.

I personally feel that I learnt some very important lessons from your visit.

Document Controller, Sunset Coast Water.

Definitely made myself and others take greater care in our jobs.

Mechanical Fitter, Sunset Coast Water.

Your story was a thousand site inductions. What you shared shows that even with a knowledge of work safe practises we can be pressured into cutting corners even with something as seemingly minor as footing a ladder. Thank you for your courage, honesty and enthusiasm.

Design Draftsman, Sunset Coast Water.

Fantastic session. Opened a few of the young guys’ eyes and minds whilst reassuring us older farts that safety must come first.

Site Manager, Sunset Coast Water.

Your presentation was well delivered and highlighted the consequences of complacency in safety matters on a construction site. I like most people see an accident as something temporary. Your case clearly shows that the consequences can extend far beyond dealing with the accident itself – and that the physical, emotional and financial burdens associated with an accident are not appreciated or understood.

Steven Nash, Project Manager, Sunset Coast Water.

It really drives the message home how simple these tragic accidents can occur.

Rigger / Dogman, Sunset Coast Water.

You have opened my eyes up even more to the fact that accidents can happen just like that even if it is a routine day to day task. Keep up the inspirational work.

Rigger / Scaffolder, Sunset Coast Water.

Thanks very much for your talk it really brought home safety in the workplace, the need to take a few minutes on any working situation, and talk with your work mates; can we do this a safer way and more so look out for your workmates? Thanks for your talk.

Electrician, Sunset Coast Water.

Your story has made me realise how quickly an accident can happen and change your life forever. This will be in my mind for a long time to come.

Roofer, Holsworthy Army Base.

I found your presentation of your story to be an awakening and made me realise how important and how easily accidents can happen without the correct safety measures.

Roofer, Holsworthy Army Base.

I am sure that in future people will think twice before cutting corners and it will go a long way in helping to keep people safe on the job and preventing injury to workers.

Plumber, Holsworthy Army Base.

After your talk the number if people on site who talked about how this and that could happen and what to be aware of was unbelievable. I thank you for your inspirational talk.

Supervisor Steel Fixer, Murrumba Alliance.

Thanks for helping to adjust the project focus on OH&S complacency. I have attended another session a few years ago delivered by an amputee who lost his legs in an industrial incident. I was deeply affected by the experience and I thought the Teamsafe session (Your Story) would not affect me the same way, having experienced it before. I was wrong; it hit me just as hard and has had the same affect on all that I have spoken with. Good luck David and in the future and keep up the good work, spreading the message.

Systems Manager, Murrumba Alliance.

Your story compelled me to be a lot more aware when working around a hazardous environment – especially when working at home.

Concrete / Formwork Carpenter, Sunset Coast Water.

Thanks for your story, it was honest and heartfelt and made me really think about how good I have it and I want it to stay that way from now on I’ll think twice before attempting something dangerous and I’ll be keeping a close eye on my sometimes dodgy workmates. Thank you again.

Carpenter, Sunset Coast Water.

Thanks for the eye opener mate. Fantastic response on site after your visit – an immediate upturn in attitude to safety. Especially at heights things tend to get a little lax at times and your were a great ambassador for the “don’t become complacent” message. Keep up the great work and positive attitude – you are making a difference.

Site Manager, Sunset Coast Water.

Thank you for sharing your story. You provide a realistic and “STARK” reminder of what a hazardous industry we work in. We need to lookout for our workmates, friends and of course family. “Beware of Complacency”. I look forward to meeting you or another ambassador in the not too distant future.

Brian Addy, Safety Advisor, Sunset Coast Water.

Thank you for presentation given to us 6 May 2008. I can only hold in awe your bravery and determination to change the how and action of people – congratulations.

Safety Coordinator, John Holland

Powerful, emotional, courageous, confronting, touching, thought-provoking, life changing story. Thank you for sharing your story with us and no doubt changing behaviours and positively influencing attitudes toward safety in many of our people. Personally I find myself taking greater responsibility and care for the things I do at home when I’m not getting paid to do safety. I can’t thank you enough and really look forward to catching up with you again. Cheers mate. The most influential, powerful, attitude swaying OHS program I have ever seen. The impact is hard hitting real and long lasting.

Matt Ward, Engineer (System Coordinator), Sunset Coast Water
